Acacians Honored at Cornell Greek Awards 04.28.2008
Two members of Cornell Acacia were honored at the Cornell University Greek Awards, held Saturday at Noyes Community Center. Steven L. Stein '73 was one of six recipients of the Distinguished Alumni Service Award, which recognizes loyal alumni for their service to the Greek community. Steve has worked tirelessly as our Corporation Board President for 27 years. Brian Cannon '10 received one of eight Outstanding New Member awards for his efforts as this spring's Pledge Class President. Congratulations to these two gentlemen, and also to the chapter as a whole for its success.
Alumni tickets for Slope Day available 04.23.2008
Slope Day is next Friday, May 2. There is a new
policy this year: In order to gain admission to the slope, you will
have your Cornell ID scanned to confirm that you are an active student.
If you plan to come back to Ithaca for the day, you should purchase an alumni ticket ($25) from
CornellTickets.com. Alumni are always welcome to stop by the house, but you won't be able to see the performances without a ticket.
Please contact the house if you have any questions about this, and we look forward to seeing many of you next week.
Great Showing of Acacians at Day of Demeter 04.19.2008
Today, fifteen brothers participated in Day of Demeter, which is a philanthropy event specially for Cornell Greeks. Participants from each house gathered in the morning at Greek Park on West Campus, and then split to go to four different work sites. Acacia joined Theta Xi and Kappa Delta at Caroline Elementary School, where we worked for four hours to dismantle their old playground and move mulch. Acacia had the most participants of any fraternity, a feat which shows our enthusiasm for adhering to our motto of "Human Service."
UPDATE: You can see pictures of the playground demolition on
the school's website.
Acacia Posts High GPA 04.18.2008
Our Fall 2007 GPA was 3.318, which placed us 19th of 47 fraternities. Acacia outpaced the all-fraternity average (3.246) and improved significantly from last spring's 3.185.
Spring 2008 Traveler is Available 04.10.2008

Reunion Weekend 2008 03.16.2008
Reunion is right around the corner! Any alumni who plan to come back to Ithaca for the weekend are invited to attend a reception at the house, Sat. June 7, from 4:00-6:00pm. This will be a great opportunity to see some of the exciting changes to the house. Family members are welcome.
Sprinkler System Installation 03.16.2008
As part of the ongoing Centennial Capital Campaign, contractors have begun installing a sprinkler system in Northcote. Over winter break, they dug a trench to connect the 8" water main under the sidewalk to the pantry on the basement level of the house. The basement level (including bar room, kitchen, and dining room) is nearly finished, and pipes have already been installed in the first-floor wing. Corporation Board President Steve Stein '73 has been working closely with the contractors to ensure that the pipes do not detract from Northcote's appearance.
Spring Rush Results 03.16.2008
Thanks to the hard work of the active brotherhood, especially Rush Chair John Koltz, Acacia has nine candidates for brotherhood. The pledges held a great pledge party two weeks ago ("Taste of the Tropics") that drew a large crowd despite the cold weather. Look for more information about the pledges in this spring's Traveler!
